We know there are a wide variety of services that victims need. We bring stability and help address victims’ needs for treatment, health care and employment. To deliver these services we establish partnerships with a variety of public and private health, human service, and job training and placement organizations. Some of the other services provided to victims are :
Crisis Counseling & Mental Health Support
Providing professional counseling and mental health services to assist victims in dealing with trauma and emotional distress.
Legal Assistance
Rendering legal services to victims, such as assistance with restraining orders, court proceedings, and working within the justice system.
Shelter & Housing Support
Safe, temporary housing arrangements for victims requiring immediate shelter, and long-term housing support.
Financial Aid & Support
Emergency resources or funds to assist victims with short term financial requirements such as food, transportation, and medical bills.
Childcare and Family Support
Offering individualized care to children or relatives while the primary victim receives treatment.
Job Training and Employment Support
Helping victims acquire work skills, placement in jobs, or financial autonomy to start a new life.
Safety Planning & Protection Services
Assisting victims in developing safety plans and having resources for exit safety, such as transportation or relocation.
Support Groups
Peer support groups therapy for the victims to relive the experience and take strength in a group.
**Supporting Battered Women and Homeless Veterans**
Battered Women
Individuals facing domestic violence, sexual assault, or stalking may be forced to flee, resulting in homelessness. Domestic violence encompasses physical, sexual, emotional, and psychological abuse, including intimidation, manipulation, and harm. These crimes are often perpetrated by a current or former partner, spouse, or cohabitant.

Homelessness Veterans
Homeless veterans come from diverse backgrounds, facing challenges like health issues, family situations, and financial instability. Homelessness is defined as lacking a fixed, regular, and adequate nighttime residence,
which includes:

Sleeping in places not meant for human habitation

“Couch surfing” or staying with others temporarily.

Living in temporary shelters or transitional housing.

Residing in government-funded hotels or motels.

Living in severely overcrowded housing.
Causes of Homelessness
Homelessness is a complex issue with numerous causes. Key causes are:
- Inadequate affordable housing: When people are unable to pay for housing or housing substitutes
- Domestic violence: If you need to move out of your home because of domestic violence
- Mental illness: When people are having a disabling condition that prevents them from getting and keeping housing
- Substance use disorders: Problems of addiction affecting housing stability.
- Health crises: Critical health conditions that impact housing security
- Unanticipated job loss: Sudden loss of work resulting in homelessness.

Barriers to housing include high costs, poor credit, discrimination, substance abuse, criminal history, mental health challenges, low income, unstable employment, and family size.

Victim strategies to overcome Housing Barriers
Victims can overcome barriers to housing by using emergency housing, legal aid, subsidized programs, credit restoration, job assistance, mental health services, advocacy organizations, shared housing, and financial counseling.
Quarterly Payments/Upfront Rent: Offering quarterly payments or three months‘ rent upfront as an alternative payment option.
Taking Responsibility: Highlight the tenant‘s having acknowledged past mistakes and taken a conscious effort to amend them.
Supportive Services: Emphasize how supportive services will influence future rental behavior positively, regardless of history.
Progress Letters: Provide letters outlining earlier setbacks or showing current progress and effort.
Self-Defense or Domestic Violence: Present evidence showing prior rental issues were a consequence of self-defense or domestic violence.
Good Standing Documents: Document payments for timely billing such as insurance, telephone bill, and medical co-pays.
